How to Help Your Oral Health When You Have an Eating Disorder

Posted .

If you have an eating disorder, your physical health is not the only thing that is in danger—your smile is as well, which is why our Prosthodontics of the Carolinas team strongly recommends seeking professional help as soon as possible. Until you receive the help you need, Dr. Ralph Hoffmann and our team ask you to take exceptional care of your pearly whites. You can do so by doing the following things:

-Visit your dentist: It’s extremely important to visit your dentist regularly so you can avoid tooth erosion and tooth decay. Dental appointments will help you keep your smile in tip-top shape and they will give your dentist the chance to give you the tips and advice you need to have a successful oral health.

-Use baking soda: Avoid brushing your teeth after you have thrown up. Brushing can only worsen the effects of the stomach acid. Instead, simply rinse your mouth with baking soda.

-Keep up on oral hygiene: It is very important that you clean your smile every day by brushing, flossing, and rinsing. Please brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste and rinse your mouth with antibacterial mouthwash. You can floss your teeth with any flossing product of your choice. Please make sure that each cleaning tool you use has been approved by the American Dental Association.
